Car Accident / Whiplash

After an auto accident, most people concentrate on getting their car fixed, ignoring the damage done to their own body. But once you get your car fixed, you may notice that you’re not feeling quite yourself. Sometimes, there are obvious symptoms – neck and back stiffness, pain, headaches, general achiness – but frequently hidden injuries result in symptoms not as easy to recognize as being caused by the accident. Difficulty in concentrating, moodiness or irritability, memory loss, and insomnia can be caused by post-traumatic osteoarthritis, which can wreck your posture and cause the discs in your spine to become brittle, leading to the inability to turn and move properly.

To avoid this, after any auto accident, your best bet is to be examined by doctors who are trained in the biomechanics of the human body and the damaging effects of car accidents. This means that these doctors can perform tests which measure muscle strength, range of motion, and joint and nerve function.

Call us to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors. We can properly assess any injuries you may have suffered – and possibly save you from years of chronic arthritic pain in the future.

Back Pain

30 million people nationwide suffer from neck and/or back pain, and this year alone, they will spend $40 billion to try and solve it. Waves of Wellness Chiropractic can help, whether the cause of your pain is down to a muscle/ligament pull or because of a subluxation (misaligned bone) in your spine. Let us help you get back to a pain-free life – by getting to the root of the problem instead of relying on painkillers and anti-inflammatories.

Neck Pain

Research shows that you have a 72% chance of experiencing an episode of significant neck pain by the time you’re 50 and a 91% chance by the time you’re of retirement age. Almost always, your pain is caused by one or more of the vertebrae in your neck that are out of place as a result of tight neck muscles. Our doctors use chiropractic adjustments to get your spine back in line and alleviate your pain. And for those of you who are afraid of getting “cracked” or “popped,” our doctors use state-of-the-art medical tools to gently realign the spine without pain.

Herniated/Bulging/Degenerative Discs

Bulging disc: The wear and tear on a misaligned disc tears the outer ring of the disc which is supposed to hold the jelly center in place. When torn, daily pressure on the disc forces the jelly center through the tear, like stepping on the side of a balloon without popping it. The disc painfully bulges outward as you can see to the right.

Disc herniation: This is a more severe and more painful disc bulge. The outer ring completely tears and the jelly center pushes out past the edge of the disc like toothpaste out of the tube. This often puts pressure on the nearby spinal cord or nerves.

Degenerative disc disease: When multiple tears occur around the disc, the jelly center very slowly leaks out of the disc over time. If left untreated, the disc dehydrates and begins to disappear. If this goes on for several months, the disc thins and the bones begin to painfully rub together. When the bones rub together, it causes inflammation and the bones begin to change shape producing arthritic spurs. These arthritic changes are permanent and if severe, ultimately require risky surgery.

Spinal Stenosis

When a bulging/herniated disc and/or arthritic spurs push up against a spinal nerve, this is called foraminal stenosis. When the disc/spur pushes against the spinal cord, this is called spinal stenosis.

Either way, this can be very painful, causing severe local pain or radiating pain down the legs or arms.

Knee Pain

Half of the knee pain patients who come into our offices have been told they needed some type of knee surgery. The other half, who haven’t been told they need surgery (yet), just don’t want their knees to get any worse. There is no magic wand, but there is a combination of treatments that we use which has been clinically shown to help 79.6% of patients with knee problems – the combination of Active Release Therapy (A.R.T.) and cold laser therapy.

When treating knee pain, it is important to remember that it, like most joint pain, is very often a result of overused muscles and/or other soft tissues. Overused muscles can be caused by:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.)
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain.

Active Release Technique combats the problems caused by scar tissue with more than 500 movements that target specific problems in the joints. Although A.R.T. is very effective on its own, we combine it with cold laser therapy for even better results.

Cold laser therapy is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment for joint pain that uses low-level, focused light waves to heal injured tissues. In as little as 2 treatments, which only last 15 minutes each, patients have reported significantly reduced knee pain.

When we use cold laser therapy in addition to A.R.T., the success rate is truly impressive. Out of every 5 knee pain sufferers who walk into our practice for treatment, we see 4 walk out smiling and pain-free!

Hip Pain

Just like the bones of your spine can misalign, so can your hips. Our doctors can gently set your misaligned hip bones back into place, thereby getting rid of your pain. Sometimes a back bone out of place pinches nerves coming out of the lower spine that run to the hip. This nerve pain mimics hip pain which is why we see patients who have had injections to their hip without any benefit. Our doctors find, diagnose and fix misaligned back bones , thereby reducing pressure on nearby nerves and eliminating your hip pain.

IT Band Syndrome

Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a common injury to the thigh and knee, generally associated with running, cycling, hiking or weight-lifting (especially squats). ITBS is one of the leading causes of lateral knee pain in runners. The band is crucial to stabilizing the knee during running, moving from behind the femur to the front while walking. The continual rubbing of the band over the lateral femoral epicondyle, combined with the repeated flexion and extension of the knee during running may cause the area to become inflamed and painful.

Mid-Back/Rib Pain

Just like the bones of your spine can misalign, so can your ribs. Our doctors can gently set your misaligned ribs and back bones back into place, thereby getting rid of your pain.

TMJ Syndrome

Quite simply, your jaw hurts. Sometimes this also includes jaw clicking or painful popping. Whether due to trauma or grinding your teeth, this condition is rarely treated properly. Your tight upper neck muscles must be relaxed, your skull and neck must be properly aligned, your jaw muscles must be balanced and the inflammation in your TMJ must be reduced to fix your problem. Our doctors are certified in TMJ treatments using Active Release Technique (A.R.T.), percussor therapy, chiropractic adjustments and cold laser therapy to fix your jaw pain for good.

Golfers Elbow/Tennis Elbow

Also known as “medial epicondylitis,” golfer’s elbow painful condition results from overuse of the muscle/tendon attached on the inside of your elbow, often due to an improper golf swing. Tennis elbow is the same basic condition, but resulting from overuse of the muscle/tendon on the outside of your elbow (lateral epicondylitis). When your muscle is overworked, it produces lactic acid which results in the microscopic formation of scar tissue. If the activity continues, the scar tissue thickens and eventually swells and becomes painful at your elbow. Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) was specifically designed to treat this “overuse syndrome” and our doctors are certified in A.R.T. to properly diagnose, treat and fix your condition – to help get you back on the golf course and/or the tennis courts!

Headaches

Often, the cause of a headache is pressure on a nerve or nerves running to your head. If a nearby spinal bone is misaligned and pressing on that nerve, or an inflamed muscle is tight around that nerve, then you will get headaches. Our doctors realign your vertebrae/skeletal system using chiropractic adjustments to eliminate those headaches. Our doctors also utilize Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) to treat injured muscles and reduce the pressure on nerves to get rid of your headaches.

Sciatica

Sciatica is a very common ailment among our patients and it can be very painful. Disc bulges, disc herniations, and degenerative discs can all put pressure on nearby nerves, sending a shooting pain into the arm or leg.

Pressure on this nerve can also be caused by spinal misalignments and/or tight muscles. We can fix all of these issues using Chiropractic adjustments combined with Spinal Decompression, Cold Laser Therapy and Active Release Techniques.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition characterized by burning, searing pain in the soft tissues on the bottoms of your feet. The pain occurs where the fascia (a ligament membrane under your foot) has been damaged or torn and then healed with tough scar tissue that doesn’t stretch. Our doctors utilize Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) to break up that scar tissue and make the fascia stretch properly again. Our doctors also utilize cold laser therapy to speed up the healing response in the fascia and prescribe customized arch supports (orthotics) to get you back on your feet, pain-free, as quickly as possible.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder is a chronic condition in which your shoulder is injured and, after months of not being corrected, becomes “frozen.” It is your muscles’ way of protecting your joint from further damage by locking it up. Active Release Technique (ART) is the gold standard in correcting this problem by breaking up the scar tissue caused by the injury and stretching the muscles that have gone into spasm around the joint. Our doctors are helping people regain the motion in their shoulders and get out of pain combining ART with cold laser therapy.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment of the nerves in your wrist, resulting in pain, weakness, burning, numbness and/or tingling in your hand(s). This most often results from misaligned bones in the wrist, either from injury or swollen muscles/tendons caused by repetitive activity (typing, grasping, etc.). Our doctors utilize chiropractic adjustments to properly realign the carpal/wrist bones and Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) to properly treat the injured muscles and tendons. Most of our patients who come in with carpal tunnel syndrome are fixed within 3-5 visits.

Numbness/Tingling

The only way for you to feel pain, or anything for that matter, is through your nerves. Our doctors find, diagnose, and treat bone misalignments that put pressure on nerves using chiropractic adjustments. Our doctors also find, diagnose and successfully treat nerve blockages due to tight muscles using Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) and cold laser therapy.

Pregnancy-Induced Back Pain

Back pain is common during pregnancy due to the changes occuring in your body. As your baby grows, the biomechanics of your body and your posture alter to make room for the baby. The additional weight and change in posture can lead to increased stress on the spine. Chiropractic can help ease the pain and prepare the body for a more natural birth process by keeping the spine and pelvis in optimal alignment for your baby’s journey. Let us take care of both you and your baby during and post-pregnancy with safe and specific hands-on care.
